AMOK - An opera loosely inspired by the relationship between Alma Mahler and Oskar Kokoschka

In order to write mere initials, the author and stage director Orianne Moretti plunges her quill into a kind of expressionism, full of torsions and ruptures. As a result of her creation, AMOK (combination the initials of Alma Mahler and Oskar Kokoschka) outlines the passions and divisions of a famous couple shaken up by the upheaval at the dawn of the twentieth century.

France for the libretto, Switzerland for the score, Germany for the musical performance: this creation designed for Reims Scènes d’Europe sheds light on the turbulent relationship between two personalities travelling across which also slips on the clatters of the First World War.

With their fragile relationship, Alma Mahler et Oskar Kokoschka show the relation between the creator and his muse and the impact of their intimate passions or external events, to fuel, accelerate, freeze or break inspiration and the creative process.

Expressing an artistic fusion combining writing, musical composition, scenography, choreography, arts, video… AMOK transcribes the tension of the feelings, the souls and beings… before the explosion, with a contemporary vision of the sound and visual space.
